Reverberations

I like this artwork on long-suffering Lister Gate a lot.

The premises to which it is has been affixed have previously been occupied by Woolworths, HMV and WH Smith. Possibly other businesses, too.

The historical scene depicted features the Walter Fountain, which was built in 1866 and demolished in 1950 after being damaged in a gale. Perhaps the best thing about the artwork is that it is sited right next to the physical space that once played host to that late, mildly-lamented structure.

It's quite a strange feeling, being physically present in a specific location while simultaneously looking at a visual reminder of what was once there.

Temporal reverberations abound.

Resurrection!

  1. Lister Gate is now becoming a focal point for many of Nottingham's homeless; tents and encampments are spreading on what is now fast becoming Desolation Boulevard*. The Council should hang their head in shame.

    *No, not that one.
